$1.2B contract for city sewer stations rehab cleared

Cabinet has given the green-light for a $1.299B contract for the installation of force mains, riser mains and the rehabilitation of sewer stations in Georgetown, under the Sanitation Improvement Programme, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon said on Wednesday.

The contract was among 10 that received “no objection” at the statutory Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA).

At a post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday, Luncheon disclosed that other contracts included one valued $126.8M, for the provision of security services for Guyana Election Commission (Gecom) offices across all 10 administrative regions. There was also a $79.07M contract in the Health sector for the provision of dietary supplies for the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. In the Housing and Water sector, there were four multi-million-dollar contracts for the construction of roads and drainage structures: a $51.8M contract for the upgrading of roads in Tuschen, Block ‘A’ Region Three; a $69.6M contract for roads at Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara in Region Four; a $58.8M contract for the first phase of upgrading of roads at Ordnance, Fort Lands in Region Six; and a $863.5M contract (four lots) for the construction of roads, drains, structures and the installation of pure water distribution networks at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.

In the Public Works sector, Cabinet also gave its no objection to a contract valued US$2.6M for the rebuilding of roadways and 11 structures from Belladrum to Bush Lot in Region Five. Another contract, valued US$2.7M, also received no objection for similar projects from Experiment to Cotton Tree, Region Five and two structures at Friendship, East Bank Demerara – Lot 2. Also, in the Agriculture sector, a US$375,500 contract for the supply, delivery, installation and testing of laboratory equipment for the artificial insemination lab received Cabinet’s no objection.
