The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) says adverse weather conditions on Wednesday caused a number of network faults and power outages but its crews worked diligently to restore power to the affected areas.
In a press release, the company said at 3.20am a fault at Industry caused its frequency converter to trip and shortly after a 60Hz shutdown to occur. All circuits were restored by 4.28am. The fault at Industry was found and corrected at 7.52am and power was restored to consumers between Success and Coldingen at 8.03am.
At 2.35pm a large tree fell on two circuits serving consumers between Bel Air and Coldingen. “Despite driving rain and high winds GPL crews were able to locate the tree, remove it from the network and complete necessary repairs,” it said. Power was restored to those areas at 5pm.
GPL said the adverse weather conditions will continue to occur over the next few days as a result of compromised structures and sodden conditions. Consumers are advised to call the company’s emergency call centre at telephone numbers 226-4015 or 226-4016 to report any situation requiring attention. Additional emergency crews have been deployed to address emergencies and priority will be given to all drainage pumps as is usual in these circumstances.
