The Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC) has served notice that the bridge will be closed on Sunday, March 4 for six hours commencing at 05:30 hrs to accommodate urgent repairs.
“There will be a disruption to the movement of goods and services …to facilitate urgent rehabilitation works which includes replacing of metal panels under the bridge…we will strive to complete the works in the fastest possible time to avoid such lengthy disruption,” General Manager of the DHBC, Rawlston Adams said, according to GINA.
Adams also disclosed that a proposal for tariff adjustment for the Bridge has been submitted and is awaiting Cabinet’s approval. He told GINA that these adjustments will see the varying tolls increasing to accommodate upgrade works that are to be executed on the bridge.
Adams added that for 2012, the DHBC will be prosecuting persons who try to cheat the system by not paying toll and persons who drive faulty vehicles on the structure resulting in them breaking down thereby causing heavy traffic disruption.
