The Ministry of Labour has ordered arbitration in a long-running dispute between RUSAL subsidiary Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc and the Guyana Bauxite and General Workers union.
This is according to a statement today from the GB&GWU.
The arbitration will address five matters including the dispute that led to the sacking by BCGI of 57 workers in December 2009. It also addresses the wage dispute in 2009-10 and an alleged threat by BCGI’s General Manager in 2011 against workers.
The union had been pressing the ministry since 2009 to take the necessary measures to tackle its grievances with BCGI.
