The three tournaments will be held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on March 19, a release from Public Relations officer of the GTTA Patrick Triumph stated.
According to the release, the GTTA will use the tournaments as part of its preparation for the 2012 Caribbean Senior Table Tennis Champions scheduled for the Dominican Republic later this year.
The GTTA has identified four male players and one female player to participate in the tournaments.
National men’s singles champion Nigel Bryan, Mashramani tournament men’s singles winner Paul Meusa, runner-up Edinho Lewis and overseas based Paul David are the male players named along with national women’s champion Trenace Lowe.
Four players from Caribbean countries, including Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Vincent are to be invited and are expected to participate in the tournament.
The GTTA, the release stated, will announce the list of invited players in both categories later this week.
“The GTTA will coordinate the competition and will provide umpires, tables, balls and other resources to ensure the smooth running of annual competition,” the release stated.
The top three Super-16 finishers will receive trophies and cash prizes with $300,000, $200,000 and $100, 000 for the first, second and third placed finishers.
In the Super-8 competition, $200,000, $100,000 and $75,000 along with trophies will be awarded to the first three finishers.
Meanwhile, the Veteran’s will swing into action on March 17 at the CASH.
The GTTA release stated that it “anticipates record participation of players since the tournament will be open to veterans from around the country to determine a ranking system for the players.
The veterans will compete in Over-40, Over-45, Over-50 and Over-55 categories.
Colin France, Patrick Triumph, Xenophen Goliath and Raynor ‘Copter’ Anderson are expected to be in action.
Trophies and cash incentives to the top three finishers in each category will be provided.
