Executive members of the Guyana Women’s Miners Association will visit Itabali backdam in Region Seven on Friday to meet female miners in the area in an effort to sensitise them about their rights and to listen to issues they may have.
President of the association Simona Broomes said Friday’s visit is one of the many they plan to have with female miners around the country as she knows there are many issues they need assistance with.
The members will also hold a public meeting in Bartica at 4 pm in the office Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and later will have a call-in television programme.
The miners will also be able to access from the executive members, application forms for Guyana Geology & Mines Commission (GGMC) lottery for special mining permit parcels. On Sunday the GGMC had announced in an advertisement that a lottery of 60 special mining permit parcels in each of the six mining districts–Lethem, Mahdia, Bartica, Port Kaituma and Mabaruma–were available. Broomes said they have uplifted some application forms which they would not only distribute to the interested miners but would assist them in filling it up.
