A man was yesterday fined $15,000 for assaulting a 14-year-old boy.
Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, imposed the fine on Sean Toppin, after he pleaded guilty to assaulting the boy.
The court was told that the Toppin and the boy are known to each other. On the day of the incident, Toppin was in front of his yard when he saw boy approach him and he hit him. They fought and the boy later reported the matter to the North Ruimveldt police outpost. Toppin was arrested and later charged.
Toppin and the boy yesterday agreed to sign a bond to keep the peace between them, since the prosecutor noted that there should have been a charge made out against the boy as well. Both parties will have to keep the peace for six months, failing which they will face the court again and the Magistrate assured them it would not be at all pleasant.
