BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC – Women’s batting star Deandra Dottin has praised the team spirit in the West Indies side after they beat India by three wickets here Sunday to win the three-match One-Day International series.
Chasing 181 for victory, Dottin spearheaded the Windies run chase with a top score of 63, as the hosts got home with four balls to spare at Warner Park.
“The team spirit is amazing. Even when the heat is on, we never panic, we never stress,” said Dottin who top scored with 63 in the Windies’ successful run chase.
The 20-year-old Dottin entered the fray with her side struggling at 46 for three in the 20th over, after losing three quick wickets for three runs in the space of 25 balls.
She took the lead, stroking eight fours and a six and anchoring a match-winning 80-run, fourth wicket stand with captain Merissa Aguilleira (26).
“When I went in we were under a bit of pressure. There was a lot of tension out there as we had to win the match to win the series. We didn’t want India to get this one. We had to do all we could to pull this one off,” the Barbadian explained.
“I promised the others that I would ‘go for it’. Merissa played really well and when we were together at the crease, we kept talking and started to count down the target in fives. We wanted to be there until the end.
“We both got out, but we never lost hope. We are a strong team and we knew the others coming after us would take care of this for us.”
West Indies also won the preceding Twenty20 series, 3-2.
