Approximately one month since leaving the shores of Guyana for a training stint in Jamaica to improve their Olympics hopes, Winston George, Rupert Perry and Quinse Clarke are making some progress, according to President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Colin Boyce.
While George is the only one out of thetrio to qualify for the Olympic Games in London, Perry and Clarke are hoping that through the stint they can improve to run qualifying times.
In a telephone interview with Boyce, Stabroek Sport learnt of the latest developments concerning the trio who ran at a meet two weeks ago.
According to Boyce, George ran the 400 metres in a time of 47.9s, finishing third while the winning time was 47.3s, while Perry and Clarke teamed up with a club to run the 4×100 metres and finished fourth in a time of 40.3s.
However, Boyce stated that according to George his legs were heavy going home which caused him to run slower.
“What he said was that his legs were heavy going home, which means that he has not yet adjusted to the type of training they’re doing there. They are going through some tough training and once his body gets accustomed to it he’ll run faster,” Boyce said.
Talking about Perry and Clarke, Boyce believes that the Guyana Defence duo had to run fast splits for the race to finish in 40.3s
“Well for the race to finish in 40.3s, the average man probably had to be running around 10.1 or 10.2s…which is pretty good,” Boyce told Stabroek Sport.
Meanwhile, according to Boyce, the trio’s next competition will be on March 17th.
