The Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert M. Persaud and staff of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) are mourning the passing of former Commissioner Brian Lance Sucre.
He was 64.
According to a release from the Ministry, Sucre joined the Geological Survey and Mines Department in 1967 as a Geologist trainee then went to University of Manitoba to pursue a degree in Geology under a CIDA scholarship. He was appointed as Geologist on May 7, 1973 at the Department of Geological Surveys and Mines of the Ministry of Mines and Forests.
Further training was pursued on September 26, 1974 at the Imperial College of Science and Technology – United Kingdom, where he earned a Msc. Degree in Geophysics, which resulted in his appointment as Geophysicist within the Department of Geological Surveys and Mines of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources for the period August 1, 1979 to August 1, 1980, the Ministry said.
He was later transferred to the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission as a Geophysicist on September 1, 1980, then Seconded to the Ministry of Energy and Mines as Chief of the Petroleum Unit on February 1, 1983.
Additionally, he was Appointed Director of the Petroleum Unit to GNRA with effect from November 1, 1986, then appointed Commissioner of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission on January 5, 1994 and subsequently retired from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission on August 31, 2001.He then went into consultancy, the ministry said
