Dear Editor,
Allow me to belatedly congratulate you on the weekly Sunday Feature “The World beyond Georgetown” which I do find very informative and interesting.
As an urban dweller all my life my excursions into the countryside of Guyana were specifically confined to visits to relatives, Church Outings and some exploratory motor cycle group trips as we blazed the trail to Rosignol and to the end of the Corentyne not omitting the Old Airport Race track.
Now rewind to your feature article of 26th Feb captioned `Siriki and New Haven’, which names left me puzzled only to be informed that Siriki was a new village that emerged through the assistance from Food for the Poor in 1970.
In every one of your articles I could not help admiring the colourful rural landscapes of Guyana which your camera man/woman so professionally captured. Your reporter also contributes in penning the intimate lives of the people which reveals a spirit of industry and contentment. Another observation was the industry of the Rustic which has always been a hallmark of his/her life. Out of the land they feed themselves as far as practicable in addition to making a living. In that particular article the viable trade was that of boat building.
I would advocate that when you are finished taking us on the tour of the rural areas of Guyana you should put it into a form for publication which I am certain would not only contribute to tourism but make a useful informative gift for those at home and in the Diaspora.
Yours faithfully,
V.O.Patrick
