Guyana and West Indies Cricketer Devendra Bishoo won two awards during the fifth annual Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) awards and presentation ceremony, at the New Amsterdam State House, on Saturday evening.
The 26 year old leg-spinner, who is currently in the West Indies camp preparing for this weekend’s first Digicel one-day international against Australia, was named Berbice Cricketer of the Year.
He also won what was termed the Regional Cricketer of the Year award.
Bishoo has played 10 tests, 13 one-day internationals and four (4) Twenty20s, since making his West Indies debut in the 2011 World-Cup.
Last month he was adjudged male Sportsman of the Year by the National Sports Commission for his exploits in 2011.
Bishoo is in exalted company following in the footsteps of Irfan Pathan (2004), Kevin Pietersen (2005), Ian Bell (2006), Shaun Tait (2007), Ajantha Mendis (2008), Peter Siddle (2009) and Steven Finn (2010) as first time ICC winners of the Emerging Player of Year award, which capped a wonderful 12 months for him.
Other notable awards went out to 19-year old West Indies Women’s all-rounder Shemaine Campbelle who copped the Berbice Female Player of the Year award.
Campbelle was recently was involved in a successful home series with her Windies Women colleagues versus India Women in which they triumphed in both the 50 overs and T20 formats.
Assad Fudadin, who recently scored his maiden first-class century for Guyana and is currently playing in ongoing regional four-day match against Barbados was bestowed the Berbice Inter-County Player of the year award.
Narsingh Deonarine, who is also participating in the aforementioned fixture and is currently the leading scoring in the 2011/12 first-class season, was named Berbice First Division Player of the Year.
Over 25 awards in general were presented by the BCB which organized close to 25 cricket competitions and which celebrated the achievements of its cricketers.

Under-15 Cricketer of the Year (Arif Chan), Under-17 Cricketer of the Year (Shailendra Shameer), Under-19 Cricketer of the Year (Clinton Pestano), First Division Player of the Year (Narsingh Deonarine), Senior Inter-County Player of the Year (Assad Fudadin), Senior Regional Cricketer of the Year (Devendra Bishoo), Most Disciplined Male Cricketer of the Year (Parmanand Ramdhan), Most Disciplined Female Cricketer of the Year (Phaffiana Millington), Inter-County Coach of the Year (Adrian Amsterdam), Domestic Coach of the Year (Winston Smith), Umpire of the Year (Imran Moakan), Most Improved Player (Kevin Ramdeen), Most Promising Cricketer of the Year (Kandasammy Surujnarine) and Club of the Year (Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club).
Notable special awards were also be presented to Veerasammy Permaul for captaining West Indies “A” last year versus Bangladesh “A” along with batsman Jonathan Foo, fast-bowler Brandon Bess and Assad Fudadin for their selection on the West Indies “A”.
Vickram Seebarran of Universal DVD club received a special award in recognition of his contribution to Berbice Cricket as a sponsor of many tournaments in the Ancient County and Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club was named Berbice Club of the Year.
