GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC – Ten wickets fell on the second day as the day/night fifth round Regional Four-Day affair between Windward Islands and Leeward Islands continued to meander here Saturday.
When a persistent drizzle ended play 80 minutes early at the Beausejour Cricket Ground, the Leewards were 150 for six in their second innings, a lead of 97.
The Windward had earlier been dismissed for 178 after resuming the day on 126 for six.
They were denied a handsome lead by seamer Gavin Tonge who scalped six for 78 off 21 overs as the Windwards innings fell away.
Lindon James failed to add to his overnight score, caught in the slips by captain Gavin Williams for eight while skipper Liam Sebastien, not out 68 overnight, added nine more before edging an attempted hook off Tonge to wicketkeeper Devon Thomas who claimed his fifth catch of the innings.
Nelon Pascal (22) and Garey Mathurin (10) then gathered precious runs at the end to push the Windwards lead to 57 on first innings.
Javia Liburd started the Leewards second innings in his typical aggressive fashion blasting 14 off the first over by left-armer Kenroy Peters.
But the Windwards struck in the second over from pacer Nelon Pascal when Austin Richards struck his first ball straight into the hands of Atticus Browne at point who took the catch on the second attempt.
Montcin Hodge, like Richards failed in both innings, edging Pascal to James behind the stumps before he had scored to leave the Leewards on 21 for two.
Pascal (3-58) picked up his third wicket inducing Leewards captain Williams to offer a catch to Dalton Polius at gully for 15.
