Good and Green Guyana Councillor Patricia Chase-Green, who has been acting as Deputy Mayor for several months, following the illness and subsequent death of former deputy mayor Robert Williams, was yesterday elected to the position full time.
PNC Councillor Oscar Clarke moved the notion which was seconded by PNC Councillor Eon Andrews. Of the twelve councillors present, eleven voted positively while one, Clifton John, voted against Chase-Green’s election.
Town Clerk Yonette Pluck-Cort joined councillors in extending congratulations but reminded that an oath will have to be taken. She further noted that a cordial relationship is anticipated so as to allow the council to move in a positive direction.
“I expect that in the future with the partnership of Mr and Mrs Green, not as husband and wife but as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, this city will be greener,” Chase-Green said after votes were counted.
She thanked both councillors and officers for the support she received over the weekend in a personal issue and for the confidence they placed in her during the election. She added that she will be willing to work with everyone, including those who may have different opinions, all for the betterment of the city of Georgetown.
