An x-ray and pictures taken from different angles refute claims by city businessman Nigel Reid that his recent tooth extraction resulted in extraneous damage.
Coobeer Persaud, the manager of Kitsingh Dental Clinic and Lab at Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara, where the extraction was performed last Friday, told this newspaper Reid visited and photographs were taken of the alleged damaged area from different angles.
He said that later an x-ray of the area was also done and there was nothing to suggest that Reid’s gum was torn or that any fragments of the tooth remained.
According to Persaud, he also advised the man to visit another dentist of his choice for a second opinion. He added that the man was refunded his $2,000 taxi fare and was given free antibiotics and pain killers.
A very upset Reid had visited Stabroek News hours after the extraction, complaining that he spent more than thirty minutes on the dental chair for the procedure to remove a molar. In the end the area bled for several hours and what appeared to be pieces of the tooth still remained, he said.
Persaud had subsequently explained that the dentist advised Reid that the tooth was very strong and that an extraction was not necessary, suggesting a filling instead. However, Reid insisted on the extraction.
