Nineteen cricket clubs from Berbice last Saturday received $2M worth of items under a joint programme of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTYSC) and Food for the Poor (Guy) Incorporated.
The three organisations from mid last year had embarked on a project to assist cricket clubs across Berbice in an effort to lift the standard of the game. The $2M donation was the second of its kind to be made over the last three weeks.
The clubs receiving the items were Blairmont, Young Warriors, Bermine, Bush Lot, Bath, Whim, Gangaram, Edinburgh, Chesney, Woodley Park, No. 4, Shieldstown, Cotton Tree, D’Edward, Bush Lot Challengers, Tamarind Root, Police, No. 19 Village and Canefield of Canje. Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee and RHTYSC Club Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster, in handing over the items to the clubs stated that the aim was to assist every cricket club in Berbice to achieve self-reliance.
Noting that over 25 cricket tournaments at all age groups would be played in Berbice this year, he urged the clubs and their executives to work even harder to achieve more success while also supporting the numerous programmes/projects of the BCB.
He also lauded the co-operation of Food for the Poor and its management team, especially Executive Directors Leon Davis and Jimeel Davis.
Representatives of the 19 clubs expressed gratitude to the BCB, RHTYSC and Food for the Poor for the assistance and noted that they were all happy with the rapid development taking place in Berbice cricket. Among the items shared out were name brand clothing, hand sanitizer, pillow cases, food items, books, spectacle cases and flu medicine.
