Dear Editor,
Ms Karen DeSouza wrote a letter to the Editor of the Stabroek News which was published in its March 5, 2012 edition.
Her letter impugned on the one hand, “state protection” for Henry Greene notwithstanding the allegation of rape and on the other hand, a “cover up” in connection with accountability of public funds allocated to the Guyana Police Force for the 2011 Elections.
The main thrust of Ms DeSouza’s missive was that, the PPP/C Administration is uneven-handed in the practice of its governance policies but more particularly with respect to the two matters she wrote about.
It is to be regretted that Ms DeSouza fell into the trap laid by those who wrote before her on the two issues and who, in their perverted efforts sought to transform an allegation to a fact and to leap from perception to reality.
Now-a-days, there are some in our midst who have not only mastered the art of manufacturing lies, half-truths and spurious allegations they have perfected the art in making a falsehood appear credible.
Having placed their concoction in the pages of the Opposition Media “Presto”! we are confronted with the “truth”. Then as if swept off their feet by a remarkable leap of faith those who are hostile to the PPP/C Administration end up believing this “truth” and run with it hook, line and sinker.
Nowadays it has become vogue to accept, without any analysis, any story that is critical of Government.
Karen DeSouza has come a long way since the heady days of Walter Rodney. Following his death the WPA, had organized a series of activities to celebrate his life and work. Karen DeSouza at one of those activities described Burnham as her “tormentor” and read the 23rd Psalm in a political context.
She performed as a Judge at a mock court with the “King” on trial. DeSouza performed her role well. However, it is sad to note that the same Karen DeSouza has sunk to levels unimaginable in these days. To her it seems, the truth is anything critical of the Government.
Yours faithfully,
Clement J Rohee
