Goed Fortuin Young Achievers (GFYA) and Berbice Training School will clash in the final of the Guyoil Trade Wind Tanker and Guyoil True Champion Volleyball tournament this Saturday at the National Gymnasium from 15:00hrs.
Both clubs displayed their championship material during their semifinal match-ups last Saturday when they won their respective games.
Goed Fortuin which ranks as the number one seed showed outright dominance in their semifinal game when they matched-up against Castrol Strikers.
In the four’s competition, Achievers never allowed Strikers to come close finishing them of in straight sets at 15-6 and 15-8.
They also displayed the same dominance in the six’s competition when they finished Strikers in three straight sets at 25-17, 25-23 and 25-22.
GFYA team captain Randy Adams was a definite leader as he showed leadership with his all-round play in the front and backcourt. Adams made some terrific blocks while displaying the ability to serve well along with precision attacks.
Berbice Training School which was ranked as the number two seed had a tough time with their competition in the form of Port Mourant Jaguars.
The four’s competition was a tough battle for the Berbicians although they won in straight sets as both sets went down to the wire finishing at 17-15 and 15-9.
However, in the six’s style of competition, the Training School had to come from behind to pull off the win.
Falling two sets behind at 23-25 and 16-25 to the Jaguars, the Berbicians looked deflated as the third set began before injury happen to one of the Jags players.
The injury turned the match around as Seon Glasgow of the Training School led the comeback to win the final three sets of the game at 25-21, 25-13 and 25-19.
Meanwhile the final is expected to be fiery as the number one and two seed will go head-to-head for the title while the third place match-up will be between Strikers and Port Mourant.
