Kevin Ali, the suspect in the Phagwah Day fatal stabbing, was arraigned on a murder charge yesterday.
Appearing before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Ali was charged with killing Abdul Nazir Ghanie on March 8.
It was stated that sometime before noon on that day, Ghanie was working on a building under construction at Lamaha and Carmichael streets when he noticed the defendant stoning children with bricks for throwing water on him as part of their Phagwah festivities.
Ghanie subsequently intervened and Ali allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him. Ghanie was rushed to the nearby Woodlands Hospital but was reported dead on arrival.
Ali is due to return to the court appearance is set for April 16.
