Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee yesterday promised additional police outposts across the country as he officially commissioned the $10.3 million North Ruimveldt Police Outpost.
Speaking at the simple commissioning ceremony, Commander of ‘A’ Division George Vyphius said the outpost at Christiani Street and Aubrey Barker Road, comes at a time when it is much needed. He added that the selection of the area was very critical since the precinct would serve a community that had been calling for one for a very long time.
Vyphius stated that a professional relationship will be maintained between residents and the police at all times.
Minister Rohee informed that the outpost is located in the heart of the community since the strategic location in establishing a police outpost is the most critical part in the decision-making process.
He said the outpost comes as a part of an ongoing project and that more are to be established throughout the country as a part of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ budget this year. He noted that an outpost is slated to be commissioned at St Cuthbert’s Mission today and added that during the course of the year others would be set up at Crabwood and Abary creeks.
Rohee urged the ranks stationed at the outpost to conduct themselves in a manner so that they do not create compromising situations for themselves.
He pointed out that many times calls and complaints are made by persons who state that when they call the police would say that no vehicle is available, or the phones would ring out.
He said that true or false the force has to react and take note since many complaints end up in the media. He added that preventative measures had be taken to ensure “unnecessary flak” is not encouraged.
He made reference of “unnecessary flak” in the situation with E & F Division Commander David Ramnarine who broke the silence to the media on paltry sums received from a total of over $90 million allocated to the GPF for feeding of ranks during the 2011 General and Regional Elections.
