The Fifth Hugh Desmond Hoyte Memorial Lecture is scheduled to be delivered by Staley Ming on March 28 in the Savannah Suite of the Pegasus Hotel at 5:00pm.
The theme of the lecture will be “The Role of Business in National Development – Desmond Hoyte’s Relationship with the Private Sector”, a press release from the Desmond Hoyte Trust stated.
Ming is a well known and successful businessman who worked closely with the former president as a parliamentarian and a member of the Reform component of the PNCR.
Ming was also one of the movers behind the Guyana 21 Plan which is still regarded as one of the best programmes for the expansion of the economy of Guyana, the release noted.
The previous Hugh Desmond Hoyte Memorial Lectures were delivered respectively by Dr Tyrone Ferguson, former head of the Presidential Secretariat; Sir James Mitchell, former Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Carl Greenidge, former Minister of Finance and Technical Officer in the CARICOM Office of Trade Negotiations; and Major General (ret’d) Joseph Singh.
The lectures, the release added, are intended to capture the ideas that Hoyte brought to bear on the fashioning of the Economic Recovery Programme (ERP) and the general restoration of the society.
