World story telling day, which is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling will be observed tomorrow at the Umana Yana, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has said.
The Ministry said in a statement that it is planning a programme which will begin at 5pm to commemorate the event. Many people tell and listen to stories from as many countries as possible on world storytelling day. Participants are expected to tell each other about their events in order to share stories and inspiration, to learn from each other and create international contacts.
The event is significant, the ministry said, since it is the only global celebration of story-tellers of its kind and has been important in forging links between story-tellers often working far apart.
The statement further noted that both local and foreign writers have been invited to contribute so as to enhance the international flavour of the event. All writers and story-tellers are invited to indicate their intention to participate.
