Joint junior Sportsman of the Year and potential London Olympian Imran ‘Magic’ Khan will be part of an International Boxing Association (AIBA) documentary called ‘Road to a Dream’.
The Welsh production team of Stephen King and Christopher Felton are currently in Guyana shooting footage of Khan who recently returned from an AIBA training camp stint in Cardiff, Wales.
King and Felton interviewed Khan’s family, his coach James Walcott and also filmed the rising boxing star during a workout at his training base, the Harpy’s Eagle gym.
Stabroek Sport caught up with King and Felton at the Ministry of Sport and during an exclusive interview the duo disclosed the purpose of the documentary.
Said King”“We are producing a film for AIBA called `Road to a Dream’ and as part of that film we are following one of your local young boxers Imran Khan. We have seen him in a training camp in Cardiff and now we are seeing him back at home training in his home gym.
“We are doing a short feature on Imran to get a variety of how his life is and how is boxing helping him to achieve his dream of Olympic Gold,” he added.
“AIBA has held `Road To a Dream’ programmes over a couple of years and they invite boxers from all over the World to various training camps in preparation for major competitions. For the Olympics in London they held a `Road to a Dream London camp in Cardiff for a few weeks and we had boxers from 52 nations.
We had a team in Vietnam last week filming a girl and we had another crew in Senegal last week as well so this is the last trip.”
King also highlighted that ‘Magic’ is a very talented boxer and he opines that Khan can go be one of Guyana’s best pugilists.
“I think Imran is a very talented boxer. He is very dedicated to the sport, he trains very hard and is very committed to not only achieve for himself but for his family and his nation and we really think he can do well in this sport,” said King.
Khan will also be filmed today at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis gym before he departs for Trinidad and Tobago, tomorrow night to compete in a preparatory Olympic box off tournament. The Olympic box off will be in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in May.
