Psychiatric observation ordered for man on threatening behaviour charge

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday ordered a psychiatric observation for wild life exporter Keemo Foxx, a US citizen, who is accused of using threatening behaviour towards James Singh.

According to police prosecutor Lionel Harvey the parties involved are neighbours residing at lot 73 and 74 Brickdam, Georgetown. On the day in question, March 16, the defendant attempted to enter Singh’s yard with a cutlass while threatening to kill him.

Foxx’s parents said that he is mentally ill and has sought medical assistance in the US and has medication which he uses.

The incident is a result of his illness, his father said, and he asked whether his son could be admitted to a mental institution.

The defendant while acknowledging that he has a mental illness stated that on the day in question he saw Singh abusing his wife Philomena Foxx and was going to save her. He said that he was the one who called the police but they refused his statement and only took Singh’s.

He said he feared for the safety of his wife and children and also did not like the intrusion upon his rights by the arresting officers.

The magistrate also asked for an investigation into his allegations and he is to return to court on March 27 with the results of his mental examination.
