All Greys have taken the lead in the John Fernandes Insurance second division hockey league following their 3-0 win over Airbenders Sunday afternoon at St. Stanislaus ground.
The team made up of former national players proved too strong for the Airbenders, the current National female squad in their highly anticipated fixture.
National goalkeeper Azad DeAbreu squandered a penalty stroke early in the first half but made amends in the 23rd minute when he found the back of the Airbenders goal.
Season campaigner Damon Woodroffe then made it goal number two for All Greys when he fired home a scorcher on the half time whistle.
Airbenders goalkeeper Alysa Xavier and defenders including Captain Ulrica Sutherland kept their opponents at bay until the 50th minute when Brian Asregado converted for the All Greys who are tied on six points with Hikers but have a better goal average.
All Greys had beaten debutants Saints Hockey Club 3-1 in their showdown Saturday afternoon while Hikers got the better of Old Fort also 3-1.
GCC and Old Fort have both won one match and lost one while Airbenders and Saints are yet to record a point.
In the second game of Sunday’s double header defending champions, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) found a much-improved Saints team who they eventually defeated 2-0.
Trevon Smith and Shaka Gill were the goal scorers for the Bourda Boys who have now won one match and lost their second to Hikers 3-2.
Yesterday, Hikers were down to oppose Airbenders at GCC ground.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Hockey Board stated that this weekend’s matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be rescheduled to accommodate Hikers Annual Junior Hockey Tournament at the National Gymnasium on Saturday and Sunday.
