President Donald Ramotar and Leader of the Opposition David Granger are still to agree on methods to settle constitutional and statutory appointments.
This is according to APNU Vice-Chairman Dr Rupert Roopnaraine.
At a meeting at the Office of the President on February 28, Granger and Ramotar consulted on statutory appointments such as the Chancellor of the Judiciary and Chief Justice, the Human Rights Commission, the Integrity Commission, the Ombudsman, the Public Service Appellate Tribunal, the Public Procurement Commission, the Protected Areas Commission, the Guyana Elections Commission, Guyana National Broadcasting Authority, and the Advisory Committee on Broadcasting (ACB).
The two did not discuss names of potential nominees at the meeting, only the methodologies to be agreed upon in due course. At that meeting, Granger had submitted a draft of a code of conduct for the appointments to ensure that those appointments are guided by certain base principles.
President Ramotar was accompanied by Attorney General Anil Nandlall, while Granger had Joseph Harmon and Lance Carberry with him.
Over the past two months, the President has been engaged on behalf of government with the members of the opposition on a number of issues, including matters related to the National Assembly, the national budget and tax reform.
