Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh today announced that the national budget for 2012 will be presented next Friday, March 30.
According to a GINA press release, the minister has previously indicated that Budget 2012 will continue to reflect government’s emphasis on promoting economic growth and social development in Guyana, with ongoing priority given to investment in and physical infrastructure and social services.
The opposition, which has a majority in parliament had requested to contribute to the budget but this did not pan out as government initially objected and subsequently, talks on the opposition’s budget concerns fell apart.
This will be Singh’s sixth budget, GINA said.
