Overnight and early morning rain, as well as seepage combined to prematurely end the latest round of matches in the Carib Beer and Friends of Cricket first and second divisions two day competitions over the weekend.
At Bourda, the home team, batting second, were on the verge of claiming first innings points, closing Saturday’s play on 195 -2 just 10 runs adrift of Police Sports Club’s 205 all out.
Set to resume the day’s play was Winston Forrester and Vishaul Singh unbeaten on 52 and 57 respectively.
Forrester had also picked up 2-36 with his off breaks in Police Sports Club’s first innings.
The batsmen dismissed for GCC were Robin Bacchus (40) and Wasim Haslim (37). Bowling for Police Sports Club Jason Heyliger picked up two for 28 in an all round performance after scoring 51. Police Sports Club’s 205 was aided by 41 from Leon Crawford and 52 from Pernell London while Cleon Critchlow picked up 2 for 29 and Devon Lord 2 for 49.
In the match between Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) and Demerera Cricket Club (DCC), the home team DCC batting first, made 282 all out, with Omesh Dhanram completing an even century on the eve of his birthday. DCC’s score was boosted by Andrew Gibson (50) and Leron Primo (33), with Shiveshwar Sankar taking 3 for 42 and Abilash Dookie 2 for 49. GYO were 1 for 37 in reply, with Dhanram picking up the only wicket to fall.
Second Division action in the Noble House Seafoods two-day competition was also tarnished by rain with only two games being completed. The game to finish as a no result was between the University of Guyana and Malteenoes Sports Club due to the absence of covers. The umpires agreed to end the game with MSC 37 runs away from first innings points and three wickets in hand, closing the day on 7 for 122 mainly due to Delvon McEwan’s 55. Bowling for the UG, Damian Vantull had 4 for 37. Ritesh Bridgelall (31) and Dwayne Dodson (39) gave UG a good start batting first as they compiled 159-9 on a slow, low track, with spinners Shaquille Williams and Steven Sankar picking up 5 for 42 and 4 for 30 respectively.
At the Muslim Youth Organization ground, GDF closed the game in a spot of bother on 5 for 38 in their second innings but won first innings point never-the-less after compiling 5 for 232 in their first innings batting first. Markus Watkins made 61 and Ameer Khan 65 while Jeremiah Harris contributed 33. Bowling for MYO, S. Ishmael took 2 for 36.
MYO in reply, were dismissed for 153 with Chien Gittens making an even 50.
Miguel Cort grabbed 6-36 from 12 overs. Dennis Legay supported with 3 for 44. GDF declared their second innings with four overs remaining in the second day’s play with Gittens taking 3 for 14 and Wazir Ali 2 for 9.
