The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana (FITUG) on Wednesday hosted a training seminar for 32 participants from its affiliates aimed at providing them with the skills needed for stronger unionism.
In a press release, FITUG said the participants were from the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU), the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE), the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union (CCWU) and the Guyana Labour Union (GLU). The session was held at the GAWU Labour College, under the theme, ‘Educating our Workers for Stronger Unionism.’
Presentations were made on the following topics: “The Termination of Employment and Severance Pay Act,” “The Trade Union Recognition Act,” “Collective Bargaining and the Role of the Ministry of Labour,” “Workers/Members pivotal to effective Unionism,” and “The Status of the Trade Union Movement.”
