BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Jamaica hit back to reduce Combined Campuses and Colleges to 46 for three after being dismissed for 200 in their first innings on the opening day of their seventh and final round regional first-class match at the 3Ws Oval here yesterday.
On a day of fluctuating fortunes, runaway leaders Jamaica, no doubt using the match as a warm-up for the semi-finals next weekend as they seek a fifth straight title, suffered a middle order collapse after reaching 97 for two on winning the toss.
They slipped to 116 for six at one stage before rallying.
All-rounder David Bernard topscored with 40. Batting at No. 6, he was at the crease for 72 minutes, faced 58 balls and struck six fours and one six before becoming one of four catches for wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton, off fast bowler Jason Holder.
Barbadian Holder took three for 27 off 13 overs and pacer Jason Dawes, who hails from Jamaica, picked up three for 39 off 13.1 overs.
Jamaica first lost Brenton Parchment, who was caught by Walton off fast bowler Kevin McClean for four with the score 22.
His opening partner Xavier Marshall was also caught by Walton off Holder for 21 to make it 44 for two.
The third wicket to fall was that of Danza Hyatt, who was bowled by Holder for 27 after a third wicket stand of 53 with Donovan Pagon.
Skipper Tamar Lambert was then caught at mid-on by Holder off off-spinner Ryan Austin for two with the score 105 and without addition, Pagon was caught at mid-off by Akeem Dewar off Austin for 31.
Pagon was at the crease for 143 minutes – the longest by any of the Jamaica batsmen – received 104 deliveries and hit three boundaries.
Leg-spinner Dewar accounted for Horace Miller, who was leg before wicket for four before Bernard led a recovery, adding 40 with Nikita Miller (25).
CCC, second last in the standings and playing for pride after finishing runners-up last year, lost their first three wickets with only 16 runs on the board before Shacaya Thomas, a Jamaican, who was unbeaten on 24 and Barbadian Nekoli Parris (ten not out) in his first match of the season, steadied the innings.
Pacer Andrew Richardson has two for 16 off six overs.
