I am the overseer of a house belonging to my uncle who resides in the United States of America. The house is located in Princes Street, Wortmanville. It has been approximately two years now since the sewage has been backing up and overflowing in the yard and obviously a repugnant smell is permeating into the house, creating severe discomfort for the tenants.
In an effort to correct the situation, I have been paying eight thousand dollars to clean it but it only lasts for about two months.
I visited the GWI to request assistance in resolving this problem, but got no help and was advised that I check with the M&CC which, I discovered does not provide this type of service at this time, so I am left with no alternative but to continue hiring one of the waste disposal companies to clean the sewerage tank.
The neighbours at the back and sides also pay sometimes to have it cleaned since they are all connected to the sewerage system, but my uncle’s house bears the worst of this plight.
I would like to build a septic tank to deal with the problem, but was told that it is against the by-laws to build a septic tank in the city. So my question is, what can I do to solve this problem?
I pay rates and taxes and water rates for this property. Who should be held liable?
I have seen this problem in other places and no one seems to have an answer to this problem.
Yours faithfully,
Arthur Taylor
