Brian Singh and his relative Julianne Avela will have to pay $5,000 each as costs for wasting the court’s time when they appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday on charges resulting from a family fracas.
Avela and Shiroon Mohamed, Singh’s reputed wife, were accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Singh on March 17 with a hammer, causing him to have two stitches to his head.
Singh was charged for allegedly making use of threatening behaviour against Avela on March 21.
Singh was accused of placing a knife against Avela’s hand while telling her he was going to kill her. He was, however, under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Singh and Mohamed have been living together for over ten years and have five children together.
Avela and Singh were placed on $90,000 and $25,000 bail respectively and the matter was adjourned until the afternoon.
However, when the case was called later in the day Avela and Singh decided not to testify against each other and all the charges were dismissed.
The magistrate then penalized them for wasting the court’s time.
