The state-owned National Communications Network (NCN) last Thursday renewed their sponsorship of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Undr-15 Inter-zone Tournament for the third successive year.
NCN’s Berbice co-ordinator Faizal Jafarally handed over the sponsorship cheque for $202,000 to BCB Treasurer Anil Beharry during a simple ceremony in New Amsterdam.
In handing over the sponsorship cheque Jafarally hailed the BCB as a unique organization which should be emulated throughout Guyana. NCN, he noted, was quite satisfied with the past tournaments and the high standard of play on the cricket field.
He also urged the BCB to make sure that it does all in its power to maintain the high standard of cricket in the ancient county.
Moreover, he challenged the present generation of Berbice Under-15 cricketers to strive to follow in the footsteps of Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin and Devendra Bishoo.
Beharry then expressed his delight and gratitude that NCN has once again come on board as an official sponsor. The relationship between the BCB and NCN has been very successful, Beharry noted, as Berbice under its sponsorship has won the inter-county tournament. The tournament would involve the best Under-15 players in Berbice playing for Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne, New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice.
West Berbice would play New Amsterdam/Canje at the Cumberland Ground while the Lower Corentyne would clash with Upper Corentyne at the Area “H” Ground.
The two top teams would clash in the finals scheduled for the Cumberland Ground while the 3rd place playoff match would be played at the Port Mourant Ground.
The Berbice Under-15 team would be selected based on performance in this tournament.
