The Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) Public Relations Office on Tuesday denied that attendants from one of its ambulances refused to transport Wayne Matthew’s body to the hospital.
Matthews was discovered lying on Flying Fish Street, North Ruimveldt around 7.30 pm on Monday.
GPHC was responding to a report in Tuesday’s edition of the Stabroek News captioned, ‘Tout collapses and dies after fight’.
The release stated that the ambulance encountered the police at the scene who instructed the attendants not to touch the body as they were still in the process of conducting their investigation. The hospital said that the attendants adhered to the officers’ instructions and subsequently left the scene.
The SN reporter on the scene heard the attendant in the ambulance telling a relative of the man “I don’t know why they call we them got to call Lykens” and then the ambulance drove away. At the time, the investigating ranks were in the police vehicle and had not spoken with the attendants.
The hospital also expressed concern that the police did not immediately allow the now deceased to be taken to the hospital so that trained medical personnel could confirm whether or not the man had died.
