A man was on Tuesday night shot by police during a confrontation at Beaver Street, North Ruimveldt and has since been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Seon Bamfield, 32, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was shot to his lower abdomen when police responded to a report of assault and threatening behaviour by the man. The incident occurred around 11:55 pm and according to police, it was during their efforts to arrest the man.
According to a police press release, Bamfield attacked ranks with a knife resulting in the police using force. Bamfield has been admitted to the High Dependency Unit.
When Stabroek News visited the hospital yesterday, the man’s mother, Corlis (only name given), said she did not have the facts of the matter and was asked by police to report to the outpost.
