A 44-year-old man was sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting his mother when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Sheik Mohamed pleaded guilty to the charge of assault causing bodily harm.
On March 26 at Station Street, Kitty, Mohamed who is a habitual drinker went to the home of the virtual complainant (VC), his mother Ansraji Prashad, and asked her for some food.
The woman, however, refused to give him the food and asked him to leave since he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He then grabbed the woman, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to her head.
The matter was reported to the Kitty Police Station and the woman had to seek medical attention for her injuries. The defendant was later arrested and charged.
The magistrate told the man that the woman is his mother and he has to treat her with respect.
