Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to your attention to the problem of cows in the Diamond Grove community. They roam the streets at all hours of the day and night, entering people’s yards and destroying property.
On Friday, March 23, a number of cows entered my yard and as I was chasing them out my neighbour used threatening language (he is a cattle owner).
When I made a report to the station the officer came and to his credit he investigated and spoke to my neighbour who had threatened me.
What I do not agree with, however, is him telling me that I should fence my property in order to prevent the cows from going into the yard.
Editor, these cows had previously broken the pipeline in my yard. Is Diamond Scheme not a residential area? Therefore, whether the yard is fenced or not, no cattle should be allowed to graze in that area. The branding of cows should be reintroduced so that persons can be held accountable for any loss or damage to property.
I learnt that this matter was brought up at the last local government meeting and it should be dealt with urgently.
Yours faithfully,
Laurie Greenidge
