Kitty resident Norman Sadichar, guilty of using abusive language to, yesterday received a three-month suspended sentence from the acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, who prosecuted the case, told the court that Sadichar made use of abusive language to Pulmattie Sumraj on Thursday, at the Pike Street, Kitty residence where they both live.
He further said that Sadichar went home under the influence of alcohol and began cursing and threatening the occupants of the house.
Sumraj became fearful and made a report to the police.
Sadichar said that Sumraj is his step-daughter and it was an exchange of words between him and her mother that prompted her to make the police report.
His attorney, Peter Hugh, said that his client, who has a child depending on him, was under the influence at the time at the time he committed the offence.
The magistrate stated that being under the influence was no excuse but delivered the three-month suspended sentence.
