A 20-year-old armed robbery accused who said he is a gold miner was put on $350,000 bail yesterday by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Ewart George was not required to plead to two indictable charges of robbery under arms.
It was alleged that on March 25 at Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara, George, in the company of others, was armed with a gun, when he robbed Cathy Narine of $134,0000 in jewellery.
On the same date also at Garden of Eden it is alleged that George, in the company of others, while being armed with a gun, robbed Sam Narine of jewellery, electronics and a Smith & Wesson pocket knife, all to the value of $4,669,000.
The accused was unrepresented and the magistrate advised him to get an attorney.
George said that he is a gold miner in the interior but resides at lot 712 ‘C’ Field, Sophia.
Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, did not object to bail but requested that the amount be substantial.
The accused has to appear in Court One on May 16 for report and fixture.
