Hampton Scott of Lot 18 Supply, East Bank Demerara was late last evening shot in the left shoulder by two armed men who robbed his brother in the vicinity of the White Castle Fish Shop, Hadfield Street Brickdam.
Richard Scott, who is currently holidaying in Guyana, went to the fish shop with his brother and they were drinking. Some time around 9 pm he stepped out to make a phone call and was confronted by two men. He was relieved of his jewellery valued over $100,000, two Blackberry cell phones and about $40,000. He said his brother saw what transpired and tried to intervene and one of the men fired a shot which hit his brother.
The police were on mobile patrol in the area and heard the sound and responded immediately but were unable to apprehend the men who had already escaped.
They then transported injured Scott to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was examined and admitted.
The police officer on duty at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit’s outpost went to investigate the man’s injuries but had her foot run over by the police vehicle which transported the injured man there. The policeman driving the vehicle refused to apologize, telling her “Its accident entrance and I gotta move the van”.
Later on it was business as usual at the Fish Shop customers were there in their numbers and acted unconcerned. (Lakhram Bhagirat)
