Gandhi Youth Organisation’s Dwayne De Barros’s maiden century against Malteenoes Cricket Club highlighted the opening day of the Brainstreet Under 15 tournament yesterday.
Playing at the GYO ground, De Barros stroked 118 from 158 balls in 204 minutes to lead GYO to 274-5 from their maximum allotment of 55 overs. He was supported by Gopaul Ramgobin who made 56 from 79 balls.
In reply, Malteenoes were dismissed for 141 in 43.5 overs.
Captain Bashak Yadram took 2 for 26 to support Navendra Seeraj (3-28) and Tevin Thomas (3-18). Several Malteenoes batsman failed to convert on starts with Shaquille Moseley and Dwayne Nurse making 38 each while Dale DeMendonca scored 29.
At the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) ground, DCC (B) defeated Transport by 22 runs in a low-scoring game.
Batting first, DCC (B) was dismissed for 155 in 33 overs with their number 8 batsman Dellison Evans making the top score of 37 while number three batsman Chetnarine Pooran scored 36.
For Transport, Reon Sumair took 3 for 27 from 11 overs.
In reply, Transport could only muster 133 in 23 overs with extras (32) outscoring their principal scorer Sumair, who made 23.
Akash Samuels picked up 5 for 38 from six overs.
DCC (A) showed good fighting spirit to win their match against the GCA ladies in an extremely low-scoring game at Queenstown. DCC were bowled out for a painstakingly slow 69 in 30.4 overs with extras contributing the top score of 29. For the ladies, Joann Vansertima had figures of 5-2-4-4 and Onika Wallerson 5-2-9-2 in restricting DCC to the modest score. The home team then eclipsed their feminine counterparts as they bowled them out for 37 in 18.4 overs with Travis Persaud taking 5 for 15 from nine overs to take his team to a 32-run victory.
And at Camp Road, GCC destroyed Everest by a massive 140 runs in a game where the total extras amounted to over 100. Batting first GCC scored an even 200 in 43 overs with extras contributing 79 and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed, 37.
Bowling for Everest, Navindra Singh picked up 3 for 22.
Everest, in reply, were bundled out for 70 with extras accounting for more than half their runs (38).
Bowling for GCC, Tariq Dharamlall, Ryan Singh and Ali Mohamed each took two wickets.
In the clash of the schools between Queen’s College and St. Stanislaus College, QC romped to victory chasing a paltry 83.
‘Saints’ made 82 thanks to 21 from Michael Douglas and 20 extras.
Shameer Khan and Jayadev Mana each picked up four wickets for the opposing team. Boosted by 38 extras, QC reached their target in 22.2 overs for the loss of three wickets with Carl Kumar (21) and Aftab Crandon (12) finishing not out.
The tournament continues today with five more games scheduled for the city.
