Exposure to regular tournaments has seen Georgetown players dominating the Banks Malta rapid tournament played in the mining town of Linden recently.
National senior champion Taffin Khan played unbeaten throughout the competition defeating among others second place finisher Maria Khan, Glenford Coreltte and even his father David.
Thomas, Corlette and Khan finished second, third and fourth respectively.
In the junior category, Saeed Ali of Queen’s College captured that title from Ran Motilall, Haifeng Su and Roberto Neto.
However, the Lindeners were not left empty handed as Tafari Amadi was named the best senior player while Jamal Adams of Mackenzie High School was the best junior player.
Twenty-two players from the city travelled to the mining town for the competition which is part of the Guyana Chess Federation’s attempt to decentralize the sport and get more players involved.
