CHENNAI, India, CMC – Kieran Pollard’s gentle medium pace helped Mumbai Indians to an eight-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of the lucrative Indian Premier League on Wednesday.
Pollard claimed two for 15 in a stingy four-over spell as the Super Kings were held to 112 all out off 19.5 overs, after they were sent in at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga finished with two for 16 while left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha took for 17.
Suresh Raina top-scored with 36 from 26 balls to be the only batsman to pass 20.
Pollard was not required when Mumbai batted, as opener Richard Levi stroked a shot-filled even 50 to take the visitors to victory with 19 balls remaining.
