An auto sales clerk was on Thursday accused of embezzling over $2M.
Rajwattie Ramlochan, who faced two indictable charges of embezzlement, was put on $300,000 bail by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that Ramlochan, between August 9, 2011 and February 16, 2012, at Lusignan, being employed as a clerk by CARICOM Auto Sales, embezzled $1,005,000, which had been taken into possession by her. It was further alleged that on March 3, 2012, Ramlochan embezzled another $1,100,000 which had been taken into possession by her.
Ramlochan was represented by attorney Hukumchand, who sought bail, while noting that his 35-year-old client had a fixed place of abode at Newtown, Enmore and was not a flight risk. Police prosecutor Sergeant Gordon Mansfield did not object to bail but asked that if it were granted, it should carry conditions.
Ramlochan was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 on each charge and ordered to surrender her passport and report to CID Headquarters at 09:00 am every Friday. Her next court appearance is set for May 15 in Court One.
