Today the National Parks Commission will charge a nominal fee for persons who wish to vend and those who will be bringing their vehicles (buses, cars, motorcycles) into the Botanic Gardens and Joe Vieira Park.
The National Parks Commission said in a press release that the monies collected will be used to offset expenses incurred in cleaning the Botanic Gardens and Joe Vieira Park of the usually heavy garbage and debris left after kite-flying and picnicking activities associated with Easter Monday in Georgetown.
Garbage bags would be distributed free of cost to groups entering the Park with the view that they will be collected periodically during the day to ease the clean-up exercise, the release stated.
Entrance to the Botanic Gardens will be via the western main gate on Vlissengen Road and the exit will be the eastern gate.
Admission to Joe Vieira Park will be free between 06:00 hrs and 18:00 hrs for picnickers; while those wishing to vend and park will pay a nominal fee but vending of beverages is strictly prohibited except by the duly authorized franchisee.
Meanwhile, similar fees will be charged at the National Park by the duly authorized franchisee and the entrance will be at the Carifesta Avenue gate and the exit at the Albert Street gate.
