$10,000 each for insulting language, threatening behaviour to woman

A man who used insulting language and threatening behaviour to a woman has to pay a fine of $10,000 each or serve three months in prison after he pleaded guilty to the charges before Magistrate Alan Wilson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Shafeek Khan, 49,  was charged with  making use of insulting language and threatening behaviour to Michelle Fil on April 5 at Charlotte Street, Georgetown.

On the day of the incident, the woman was walking on Charlotte Street when the man called out to her in an insulting tone.  He then approached the woman to touch her breast when the woman warned him against doing so. The man then pulled a knife from his waist and threatened to stab the woman.

The woman reported the matter and the man was arrested and charged.

However, the man told the court a different story.  He said the woman took a wristwatch from him on credit and  when he approached her for his money on the said day she told him she did not have any money to give him.

The woman told the court that she never knew the defendant before this incident.
