A bus driver who is accused of having 942 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Alan Wilson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Lukesh Jagnandan, 32, a father of four of Fourth Street, Alexander Village, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
It is alleged that on April 5 the police went to the man’s home and carried out a search and the prohibited substance was found.
When confronted with the substance, the man allegedly told the police that the substance belongs to him and he smokes it.
The defendant’s lawyer in his bail application told the court that the police found the substance at the upper flat of the house which is unoccupied, and his client lives downstairs.
The prosecution then interjected and told the court that the substance was found upstairs and downstairs of the house.
After much deliberation, bail was refused and the defendant is scheduled to return to court on April 23.
