A Cummings Lodge Secondary School student died after taking a plunge in the GuySuCo canal yesterday aback of the Sparendaam New Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
Reports are that fourteen-year-old Stephan Brusche along with other boys left his Lot 86 6th Street Sparendaam New Housing Scheme, ECD home and went to the canal to take a dip.
Around 2:00pm he took the fateful plunge and never came up.
The boys raised an alarm while his little brother ran home and informed his uncle, Lance Lewis.
According to Lewis, the boys were living with him since they were babies and, when he arrived at the scene there were three men in the water who had already found the body and they immediately summoned the police.
He added that he did not know the boys were swimming in that canal. He said that they normally swam in another canal.
Lewis said that he does not allow them to swim without supervision and had he known they were there Brusche would have been alive today.
Lewis said that he had been caring for the teen since he was a baby while his mother was working in Antigua so that she could maintain them.
He said that the lad was obedient and he is at a loss as to why he went swimming without supervision.
