Four armed, masked bandits on Sunday evening robbed a Bush Lot, Corentyne family of $1.1M in cash and jewellery during a power outage in the village.
Raymattie Ramcharran told Stabroek News that she went to the gate to investigate why her dog was barking when the bandits pounced on her.
They told her not to move and demanded the valuables. Her husband, Derek Ramcharran who was inside on the phone fought the bandits off in an effort to prevent them from entering the house.
It was only after the bandits started to beat her that her husband allowed them to take what they wanted. They took her to the upper flat where she gave them the jewellery.
But the bandits were not satisfied. They insisted that she hand over the money and she returned with them to the bottom flat and complied.
Raymattie sustained a wound to her mouth. She said the bandits also robbed her mother of a gold band and her wedding ring. The robbery lasted around 10 minutes. The bandits fled after they heard noise coming from the street. Police arrived at the scene some 30 minutes later and are continuing investigations.
