The Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) secured victory over Queen’s College in a close low scoring encounter at the GYO ground yesterday in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Brainstreet-sponsored Under-15 competition.
Batting first QC scored 116 all out before GYO, in reply, reached their target for the loss of nine wickets.
The win moved GYO to the top of the points standings with 95 points while QC is on 77 points and occupies a top four placing along with two teams from the Demerara Cricket Club.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road, Malteenoes Sports Club finally avoided defeat as they battled to a draw against Everest, finishing on 8 for 68 when their overs expired in reply to Everest’s 138 all out.
And Transport Sports Club duly registered victory over the GCA Ladies team at the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) ground.
Transport scored 144 all out batting first despite five batsmen failing to score. Shazim Khan top scored for them with 65 and extras added a valuable 40.
Onika Wallerson took 3 for 24. The GCA Ladies were then bowled out for 91, 51 of which came from extras. Junior Duncan of TSC finished with figures of 5 for 21 from 7.1 overs and Travis Marcellino had 4 for 22 from six overs.
The competition continues today with four matches and tomorrow with three.
Today at the GYO ground, the home team will play GCC while DCC `B’ will oppose Everest CC at the GNIC ground. The remaining matches will pit St. Stanislaus College against Bel Air Texaco at the MYO ground while DCC `A’ will tackle Transport SC at the Thomas Lands YMCA ground. The GCA Ladies team has drawn the bye.
Tomorrow, Bel Air Texaco will play GCC at the GNIC ground while DCC `B’ will tackle the GCA Ladies at the MYO ground. GYO will then play DCC `A’ at the GYO ground with Malteenoes Sports Club team having drawn the bye.
